Caterham is a prominent British manufacturer of sports cars designed by Colin Chapman and known worldwide.
Caterham Super Seven is the famous car developed by the company in 1973 after acquiring the rights to production of Lotus 7. Some of the models were equipped with carbon fibers which would be used for the Formula 1 chassis in future.
The company concluded a contract with the largest British producer of cars, MG Rover, in order to get the engines produced by the latter for the Caterham car. It should be mentioned that now all 2002 model vehicles produced by the company feature K-Series engines, including 1.4 -, 1.6 - and 1.8-liter engines. In addition, their horsepower ranges from 105 to 230. The Caterham Superlight R500 is considered to be the most powerful which can boast of 230-horsepowers engine.
According to the contract, the company can use the XPOWER brand used by MG Rover racing cars.
The superlight line of cars features highly accelerated engine and lighter body. Besides, such models as R300, R400 and R500 are equipped with 1.8 liter engine. Also they can develop the 160, 200 and 230 h.p. power respectively.
Even the Ferrari and Lamborghini supercars can't reach 500 h.p. per tonne, but the Caterham car can!
In order to accelerate up to 100 km/h, the R500 Caterham Superlight requires 3.4 sec. Its maximum speed is 241 km/h due to poor aerodynamic influence.
In 2002, the company released an advanced version of the legendary Lotus 7 roadster and gained a wide popularity among customers.
